Before embarking on a action plan, let's first understand what diabetes really is. It is a disease that affects the body's ability to produce or use the hormone insulin. When your body turns the food you eat into energy (also called sugar or glucose), insulin acts as a 'key' to help transport this to the cells. If you produce little or no insulin, or are insulin-resistant, too much glucose remains in your blood.

If you have diabetes or prediabetes, understanding the relationship between food, activity and blood sugar is critical to your health. We will teach you how to change your diet to manage your blood sugar levels. We will educate you about carbohydrates and how to incorporate them into your diet  to control your blood glucose. We will present you with an optimal control plan that you can easily incorporate into your everyday life. Our goal as a your nutritionist is to give you the confidence you need to make the right food choices for your body- in the hope to fend off, or control diabetes and keep your body healthy.

Your goal should be for the body to heal in the shortest time possible. We must recognize that the body is always working to heal but years of living the wrong way will take time to undo.
